“In its original iteration of the name, Urban Bonfire was kind of inspired by when I lived in the country during the summers as a young boy in the north of Montreal, and the sort of campfires that we made and cooked that as a family and with friends,” says Bloom.

This sense of community continues to inform Urban Bonfire’s outdoor kitchen design philosophy today. “We have done our very best and continue to try and position this as a kitchen outdoors—versus an outdoor kitchen,” Bloom says. “People do not have to sacrifice, compromise, or settle on quality, aesthetic, functionality, durability, movability on any of those things, just because it’s an outdoor product.”

Urban Bonfire outdoor kitchen modules are available in a curated selection of cabinetry and countertop colors, with aesthetic back panels available as an add-on. “We have created a modular system that has enough cabinet sizes, accessories, and customization tools in terms of handles colors that it’s a fully customized experience for the consumer or design professional, but it’s modular to us,” explains Bloom. “That allows us to be efficient in terms of design, quoting, manufacturing, and those types of things.”

It’s a system not dissimilar to that of Apple, he adds, “where there aren’t 300 choices of computers, there are six and you can make modifications, and you can upgrade the speed of the processor, or add memory, but it comes from a modular or finite series.”

Urban Bonfire’s Classics collection offers a series of Urban Bonfire’s most popular outdoor kitchen configurations, colors, and accessories at an approachable price. If you’d like, you can choose a Classics series that comes with appliances and storage. Conversely, if you already have appliances you’d like to use, Urban Bonfire kitchen solutions are compatible with most leading cooking appliance brands.

“A lot of people are going to say, ‘Well, that Classics series is exactly what I was looking for. And it cost less, it’s more efficient, it comes with countertops,” Bloom says. “We’ve curated a series of layouts and colors on the Classics and passed on the efficiency of time and cost savings to customers.”

When it comes to outdoor kitchen design, Bloom believes in a holistic approach. “The outdoors is a room—or it certainly can or should be,” he says.

“Whether it’s a deck, a balcony, or a rooftop, it can be turned from a space raw space into a room by combining things like kitchens, bars, storage, furniture, lighting, outdoor carpets, and accessories. It has every opportunity to be as much of a cohesively designed and styled room as the indoor equivalent.
