Gloster’s roots go back to West Africa in 1960 when a passionate group of furniture makers and entrepreneurs started the company. In response to an increased demand for teak outdoor furniture, Gloster moved its factory to Indonesia in the 1980s to access sustainable, plantation-grown teak. Today, Gloster is a leader in luxury outdoor furniture.

Every piece of Gloster’s teak furniture originates from ethically managed plantations in Indonesia. Teak is also naturally exceptionally durable and resistant to rot and mold, as well as the effects of sun, rain, frost, or snow. What’s more, a Gloster teak tree has a lifecycle of at least 50 years, and Gloster’s wood can always be traced back to its origin. Gloster only harvests what it has planted, and every tree felled was placed in the soil by one of Gloster’s plantation workers The result is beautiful, sustainably sourced teak that will last through even the harshest weather conditions.

Gloster currently works with several world-renowned designers to create timeless outdoor furniture that’s as beautiful as it is durable. Once a furniture design concept is approved, designers work closely with the development team at Gloster’s factory to further refine their designs. Designers travel to and spend time at the Gloster factory so they get to know the company’s people, raw materials, and philosophy.

When it comes to construction, each piece of furniture has been handmade by Gloster craftsmen—who are skilled in both wood and upholstery—to ensure the best and most consistent quality.
