While teak is extremely durable and can withstand all climates, basic maintenance is always recommended. Its natural oils help it resist moisture, rot, and insects, but a little routine care will keep it looking its best for decades. Left untreated, teak will gradually weather to a soft silver-gray patina, a purely cosmetic change that doesn't affect the strength of the wood. Basic maintenance may include cleaning with mild soap and water, adding a protector or sealer to preserve the golden color, and using protective covers when not in use.
