A welt—also known as piping—is a decorative ridge of fabric around the edges of a cushion. A welt is typically filled with a thin rope to help it keep its shape. A welt made of the same fabric as the cushion is known as a self-welt, while a welt made of a different fabric is known as a contrast welt.
