Teak Cleaning & Care
Teak furniture does not require maintenance to remain sturdy and in good shape, even when kept outdoors and exposed to the weather. However, a periodic cleaning is recommended to eliminate the build-up of dirt and increase longevity. To clean outdoor teak furniture, scrub your wet furniture using a soft bristle brush and warm soapy water. When finished, rinse the entire surface with more fresh water to remove any remaining residue.
Dos and Don'ts: Do clean regularly to prevent mildew growth. Do test cleaning products in a small, inconspicuous area before full application. Don't power wash teak - it damages the wood fibers. Don't allow water to pool for extended periods.
Daily Fabric Care
The best way to care for your outdoor fabric is to regularly brush dirt or vacuum-clean and occasionally wipe down with a damp cloth.
Dirty Upholstery
When fabric needs more than a simple wipe down, it should be cleaned with a water and mild soap solution. This helps dirt from penetrating the fabric and avoids unnecessary wear and tear. After cleaning, be sure to rinse thoroughly with clean water to avoid soap residues and allow the fabric to dry completely before use.
Machine-Washing
In case of removable covers, the fabric will benefit from a machine washing on occasion. This is the most effective way to protect from microbes, mold, or atmospheric pollution.
Environmental
Even though fabrics are UV-resistant, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight will eventually impact the strength and color of the fabric. Allow for shade as much as possible and use protective covers when furniture is not in use.
All fabrics are water-resistant, but prolonged humidity can cause mold and mildew to grow. Store cushions away or cover furniture when weather is predicted, and do not leave furniture exposed to wet or humid conditions for long periods of time.
Even though our fabric deters bacterial build-up, it can still be susceptible to mold and mildew if it remains wet for extended periods of time. To remove, prepare a solution of 5 parts water to 1 part bleach, and add a few drops of mild soap. Clean the fabric using a sponge or brush, rinse with clean water, and allow to air dry.
Off Season
When furniture is not in use for an extended period of time, it should be stored away or covered. Before storing, be sure the fabrics are clean and completely dry. Avoid storage in humid places. Do not wrap cushions in plastic as this may cause them to mildew.
